Naughty Spanking Stories
Book Review by Ashley Lister
Spank is the most onomatopoeic word in the sexually suggestive section of the English dictionary. From the hiss of the first sibilant, matching the rush of air as a hand hurries down to meet its target; then the plosive P, mimicking the sound and sensation of palm against buttock; the short sigh of an unround vowel; the suggestion of an uvular N; all finished off with the velar ejective of a hard K. Wow! I didn’t realise how saucy a word it could be until I reread that opening paragraph. Do you fancy a cigarette now? Or should we say SPANK again? No other word in our sexual lexis so succinctly conveys the mechanics of what it implies. Which is possibly one of the reasons for spanking’s universal appeal. Once you’ve said the word, you don’t need to ask what’s involved. You simply want to know when it’s going to begin. Another of the reasons for spanking’s popularity is, almost certainly, Rachel Kramer Bussel’s latest offering from Pretty Things Press: Naughty Spanking Stories from A to Z, Volume 2. With her usual skilful aplomb Rachel Kramer Bussel has put together a delicious anthology of spanking stories for every connoisseur of well-paddled buttocks and cheekily chastened cheeks. Perhaps I shouldn’t be reviewing this book. There’s a story in there from the remarkably talented Ashley Lister and, as he and I share the same DNA and underpants, there’s probably a danger of my infringing the unwritten rules of the reviewer’s ethicality. But (aside from my own brilliant contribution) there are 29 other stories in the anthology and each one sizzles with sensational spanky smuttiness. From the raw and voyeuristic passion of Marilyn Jaye Lewis’s After Hours, to the verismo humiliation that is the focus of Jen Cross’s Wages of Pride. Throughout the whole of Naughty Spanking Stories from A to Z, Volume 2, the arousing episodes are as constant as the slaps against deserving backsides. Debra Hyde, Exact Expectations, delivers a delicious tale of satisfying sexual submission. Saskia Walker, In Perfect Time, shows us exactly how a maestro handles his baton. Kate Dominic, Proper Incentive, reveals that you only need a dirty mind and a hairbrush to pass exams. Ruler is a wonderfully executed fable that reads with Lisabet Sarai’s characteristic eloquence and style. And Michelle Houston, Janelle’s Spankology 101, presents a perfectly rounded story that smoulders with sexual tension. Rather than name all the great authors in this anthology it would be easier to simply list the table of contents because there isn’t one weak tale in the whole collection. The anthology includes stories from some of the most consistently printed, praised and preferred authors in modern erotica. Contributions are included from Cheryl B, Thomas S Roche, Catherine Lundoff and, of course, the marvellous Rachel Kramer Bussel herself. Considering the high calibre of writing in this collection, it’s safe to say your cheeks deserve to be red if you miss out on this book.
