Greg Herren

Greg Herren is an award-winning author and editor who calls New Orleans home. He has published over twenty novels, fifty short stories, and edited twelve anthologies. He has worked as a personal trainer, a bank teller, an airline ticket counter agent, professional wrestler, project administrator, magazine editor, fitness columnist, dancer, and model.

Under his own name, he has published the acclaimed Scotty Bradley mystery series and the award-winning Chanse MacLeod mystery series. The New Orleans Times-Picayune called his Murder in the Rue Chartres the ‘most honest book about life in post-Katrina New Orleans published to date.’ It went on to win the Lambda Literary Award. He has also published four young adult novels, including Sleeping Angel, which won the Independent Press Moonbeam Gold Medal for Outstanding Young Adult Mystery/Horror. In 2003, he created the pseudonym Todd Gregory to continue writing (and editing) erotic fiction exploring gay male sexuality. His anthology Rough Trade was a Lambda Literary Award finalist, and Blood Sacramentswas a finalist for a ForeWord Book Award. Todd Gregory has also published a novella (“Blood on the Moon”) and two erotic novels about gay fraternities, Every Frat Boy Wants It and Games Frat Boys Play. In November 2012, Todd Gregory published an erotic vampire novel, Need, which is a continuation of “Blood on the Moon.”

In 2006, while working as a professional wrestler for BGEast.com, he began publishing erotic gay wrestling fiction under his ring name, Cage Thunder. He’d originally published this fiction under his own name, but from 2006 on he used the pseudonym. A collection of those stories, Learning the Ropes, is forthcoming from Lethe Press, as well as an erotic romance, Going Down for the Count, which will be published by Bold Strokes Books in 2014.

He is currently serving as president of the Southwest chapter of the Mystery Writers of America, and serving on the national board as well. He is also a member of the International Thriller Writers, Sisters in Crime, Horror Writers Association, the Authors’ Guild, and Novelists Inc. His books have been featured selections of the Insightoutbooks Book Club numerous times, as well as Editor’s Choice selections. He has been nominated 10 times for a Lambda Literary Award, three times for a TLA Gaybie Award, and been a finalist for numerous other writing awards. His short stories have been published in a variety of publications, from Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine to Men. He has worked as an editor for Bella Books, the Harrington Park Press, and currently for Bold Strokes Books; he had done freelance editorial work for the University of Louisiana-Lafayette Press and BooksBNimble. He has served as a judge for the Lambda Literary Awards, the Hammett Prize, the Edgar Awards, and the Stoker Awards. He co-founded the Saints and Sinners Literary Festival in New Orleans. He has taught writing workshops at a number of conferences and universities, and used to write a column on writing for the ERWA [Hard Business: Writing Gay Erotica with Greg Herren]. He was editor of Lambda Book Report from October 2000 through December 2001. He has published over 200 book reviews. His blog and website are: scottynola.livejournal.com / www.gregherren.com.
