I have a great solution that I have discovered to avoid the icky mess. I, personally, prefer NOT to have sex during my period...but I am also very easily excited during my time of the month with my hormones raging and all. Just one of those things I suppose...LOL!

I have found that using a contraceptive sponge (for women, obviously) works wonders to keep all the mess at bay, and it's birth control too, can't get much better then that. I don't normally use any contraceptives with my husband, but keep them in the house for this reason alone.

I've never been particularly aroused during my periods, and not particularly against the notion either.  When I was in college and had a single room/ apt style dorm I didn't care so much about the mess as it was all containable in my own personal space. Didn't do it during my period in my boyfriend's beds though. (Yes that is one guy through different living spaces). 

Since my fiance' now husband moved in with me, it's never really been something we did. Partly because we both love to stay and cuddle afterwards and don't want to jump right in the shower, partly because we now own nice mattresses and don't want to risk being wrong about catching the mess. 

Neither of my past nor partner have given me oral sex during my period, and I don't really want it. The smell of menstrual blood isn't bad, but nothing I'd want in my mouth so I don't ask them to. They've never complained about missing out either.

Personally I rather not have sex on my period. I have had sex on my period but I find that it is entirely to wet for me to feel anything at all. I like to feel every sensation I don't use lube even at the worst of times so basically having sex while on the rag is a drag. It is messy and I can't feel a thing. I have always preferred frankness when it comes to all bodily functions, including menstruation. I'm not grossed out at all by a woman's period. Well, maybe used pads or tampons would bother me, but women are mostly discrete about that. I've had sex with women during their periods and it was fine.
