I'm still not sure what turns me on. Some of the things I read (or watch) just don't do anything for me, for example, men or women humiliated and degraded. I'm all for sex being fun and joyful, physical injury is outside the pale for me.

I find that M/f, D/s stuff is stimulating even when disturbing.  No doubt this triggers deep responses somewhere inside even though I have no direct experience of them.  Fear is certainly one of the responses.
