A Good Settlement

Flash Fiction
by Ian D Smith

Flash FictionI waited outside the unfamiliar apartment building.

“Fancy meeting you here,” I said quietly.

Bill thought I was on a business trip. He went pale. “I was visiting a friend.”

“I’ve seen her,” I snarled. “Naked underneath you, long legs up over your shoulders. Close the drapes when you fuck your tarts.”

“I’ll give you a good settlement, let’s just keep it quiet,” he whispered.

“Yeah, right.” I turned and walked away.

The gunshot was scarcely audible, the wet smack of the bullet hitting Bill’s head surprisingly loud.

I carried on calmly and got into the car.

A small crowd had gathered around something on the sidewalk.

The driver’s door opened, a young man got in and threw a sports bag on the rear seat.

“Ready?” I asked.

A police car shrieked past.

“Nice and easy,” he said. “No point in attracting attention.”

“The cash is in my motel room,” I said. “Maybe ... a bonus?”

“Lady, anything like last night is one hell of a bonus.”

He was a good lover, young, fit and imaginative. The contents of the small bottle in my pocket were tasteless and slow-acting. Plenty of time to lose his car and body tomorrow.

Bio: I live in the South-West of the UK, with my wife, our dogs and horses. I am a professional scientist who has recently started writing non-fiction and fiction as a creative hobby, with some modest success in being published. Non-fiction is an outlet for my butterfly mind, fiction for my vivid imagination. I enjoy reading and trying to write romantic and realistic erotica.
