Flash Fiction
by Rose B. Thorny

Flash FictionLegs.

Shapely, well-defined.

Silky sinew leading to To where?

Ascent to heaven? Or a spiraling stairway descending into hell?

Yes, both. The best of both afterworlds.

Silk stockings? Nylon? Sensual sheer? Slutty fishhet?

None at all? Nude? Bare, soft flesh all the better to bleed? Decisions, decisions.

My lens focuses, magnifies the pain of her indecision, expands the hollowness of her unreality. She chooses sheer black to fill the void.

She recently acquired a fine, appropriate instrument. No common knife for her; she has a scalpel now. Perfect. I've watched her grow. She aspires to perfection, pursues it as a bloodhound tracks the hot, maddening scent of elusive prey.

I capture glinting steel. With surgical precision, she presses the blade into the fatty, white-cream bulge above the line separating dark and light.

The crimson line oozes, blurs the either-or conundrum, bleeds pain, clarity.

So close to her cunt, to that other wet, red darkness.

Her purpose isn't death, and yet… is that not the only truee perfection?

I focus on the silent "O" of her lipstick-reddened mouth, the ecstasy of oblivion meeting reality.

Would she do the same in dying? Could I capture that perfection perfectly?
