This romance outing from the Wicked Passions line works on several levels, both exploiting and satirizing the genre. Xander Corvus plays a writer of romance novels who can’t seem to finish his latest book, thanks to writer’s block caused by his girlfriend dumping him. Publisher Brad Armstrong dispatches “fixer” Jessica Drake to help him meet his deadline. Their initial mutual resentment turns slowly into sexual attraction, and when Jessica finds boyfriend Niko in bed with Tasha Reign, she thinks it’s time to change partners.
As we hear the actors read from Xander’s manuscript — cornball purple prose, typical of the romance genre — we see the scenes acted out through sex. Reality and fiction merge. The script (by Armstrong) is very clever, especially the banter between the two leads.
The best thing by far is the chemistry between Drake and Corvus, as actors as well as sexually. Jessica’s peerless oral skills are well displayed on the boyish Xander in the climactic sex scene. Each of the stars has another sex scene as well: Xander with Alexa Nicole in the movie’s opening, and Jessica with Rocco Reed, acting out a scene from the novel.
